Design Goals
The design goals of CR2 are:
- To establish an environment that would support the original TUTOR commands and their extensions following the transition to VCampus.
- To support an enriched set of TUTOR commands enabling some lessons from NovaNET to be more easily back-ported into the DtCyber/NOS environment for conservation.
- To create advanced container management tools which bring more modern tooling to the hands of the hobbyist developer.
- To capture and create systems-level documentation that was ordinarily acquired through apprenticeship with the systems programming team.
Objectives
The objectives of this project are to enable contemporary developers to be able to support PLATO in perpetuity. Our aim to to prevent it from becoming “bits on the floor” over time. This requires that a considerable amount of esoteric information needs to be captured and this site endeavors to accomplish that goal.
- First, (and foremost) to CONSERVE the work that's been done for future generations.
- … To define a stable baseline development environment
- … To support the ongoing maintenance of the system using enhanced in-built build tools.
- … To enable transfer of objects (PLATO files of any kind) between systems (NovaNET, CYBIS, PLATO or any generation of the PLATO decendents)
- … To enable ANY developer to become an operator of a community of their own convening: Hobbyists, Gamers, or any other type of community they envision.

- Learn about the RETRO1 Version of PTERM (V7)
- Familiarize yourself with the PLATO ASCII Guide
- Learn about the CDC Disk IO Transfer Utility
- Learn about the NOS Tape Transfer Utility
- Study
- PLATO Installation Guide
Although this guide has been superceded by this procedure, there are some important discussions and details in this document that will prove to be useful in the subsequent stages of operation.
